In basketball, every team needs a home court.
A place to regroup.
A place to rest.
A place where you belong.
Now imagine trying to compete without one.
For many teens in foster care, stability is not guaranteed. Housing can change quickly, and the uncertainty that comes with it affects every part of their lives. Without CASA’s intervention, the reality is: One in five youth who age out of foster care will experience homelessness.
For teenagers in the child welfare system, housing instability can show up in many ways:
- Frequent placement changes
- Short-term living arrangements
- Uncertainty about where they will live next
- Group homes with a revolving door of housemates and caregivers
- Limited roles models for ”adulting”
Without a stable place to call home, focusing on school, work, and planning for the future becomes incredibly difficult.
A Strong Defense
CASA Advocates help ensure youth have access to stable housing and support by:
- Monitoring and tracking placement changes and history
- Raising concerns about housing transitions in Court
- Connecting youth with resources and supportive services
- Advocating for long-term stability as teens approach adulthood
These actions can make a lasting difference for the teenagers CASA serves.
Changing the Game
A safe place to live creates the foundation for everything else: education, employment, relationships, and long-term success.
When a young person has someone they can count on to offer consistency, accountability, and coaching, the path forward becomes clearer.
They deserve a home court advantage. Learn more about how you can be part of the team by supporting Henrico CASA’s upcoming Court of Champions™ event or by becoming a CASA Advocate.
