We’ve all heard the phrase, “it takes a village to raise a child.” At Henrico CASA, that idea isn’t just a saying—it shapes how we support children every single day.
For many children we serve, stability has been disrupted. They face uncertainty and challenges no child should handle alone. That’s why community matters. When people step in, a village begins to take shape—and that support can change everything.
What It Takes a Village Really Means
A village isn’t a place, it’s people who choose to show up.
Teachers who notice when a student is hurting emotionally. Social workers help ensure children’s needs are met. Foster families open their homes and hearts. Donors invest in brighter futures. CASA volunteers stand beside children and make sure their voices are heard.
Together, these individuals create something powerful. More importantly, they create consistency. And for a child facing uncertainty, consistency can make all the difference.
Showing Up for Children, Together
CASA volunteers play a critical role in this village. Judges appoint them to advocate for a child’s best interests; however, their impact reaches far beyond the courtroom. They listen, build trust, and remain a steady presence through difficult transitions.
At the same time, volunteers never work alone. Staff members, community partners, and supporters stand behind them every step of the way. Because of this shared effort, each child receives stronger, more consistent support.
In other words, when a village shows up, children feel it.
Building the Village Through Home for Good®
This year, our Home for Good® campaign brings that idea to life through the theme: It Takes a Village.
Each playhouse represents a piece of that village—a school, a library, a home, a place of care and connection. While the structures may be small, the impact is not. Every builder, sponsor, and supporter plays a role in creating something bigger.
As a result, the campaign becomes more than a fundraiser. It becomes a reflection of what happens when a community comes together with purpose.
If you feel inspired to make a difference, there’s a place for you in this village.
