Noah and Lily grew up in a home filled with love and imagination. However, consistent structure and stability were difficult to maintain.

The children spent most of their days at home while their parents attempted to homeschool them. Because the program was not formally registered, Noah and Lily began to fall behind academically. Concerns were also raised about whether the children were receiving consistent medical care. When an allegation of neglect was made, the Court needed a clearer picture of the children’s well-being and needs.

A CASA Advocate was appointed to help the Court better understand Noah and Lily’s situation and to monitor their safety and development.

With a Child Protective Order in place, the children were able to remain with their family while their CASA Advocate visited regularly. Through encouragement and guidance from the Advocate, Noah and Lily’s parents took meaningful steps to strengthen their family. They adjusted their homeschooling curriculum to meet state and local requirements and ensured the children caught up on overdue medical appointments.

Because of CASA’s advocacy and the parents’ commitment to positive change: the Court felt confident keeping Noah and Lily in the place that mattered most: home.

CASA Reflections

Noah and Lily’s CASA Advocate provided the Court with consistent observations, updates, and insight into the family’s progress. This steadiness of involvement and advocacy helped ensure the children’s needs were being met and allowed the judge to make a well-informed decision focused on their best interests.
